Dawson Dismantles Rattigan and his unbeaten record

Shane Rattigan's perfect record in EDC finals comes to an end in an "Awesome" fashion, as Dawson Murschell dominated the final match in Coalhurst Alberta, with a top 10 EDC average and a lopsided score line. Rattigan said before the match he had yet to beat Dawson - and was looking on to playing him in the final. Rattigan went into this EDC final with a perfect 6-0 record - a record shared with the Alberta darting icon Bill McDowall.

Dawson Murschell (85.39) vs Shane Rattigan (73.79)     8 - 1

Dawson showed his intent with his first throw as he opened up perfectly with a 180, then followed it with 100, he checked out tops with dart number 16. Rattigan opened up with his throw with 125 and 123 - but Dawson had advantage after his second 180 and followed that with a 140 leaving 36 after only 12 darts thrown, Rattigan scored 58 after leaving himself 170, and Dawson did not miss 36 for a 13 dart break. Dawson had the throw in the next and the two men both came out scoring but again it was Murschell was on 141 after 12 darts, he hit the treble 20 and narrowly missed the treble 19 but left 44 after 15 darts - which he cleaned up on his next turn. At 3-0 down Rattigan was not about to give up his throw - but again scoring from Dawson was astonishing leaving 156 after only 9 darts - he then blasted in a 134 to leave 22 after 12 darts with a 137 and 121 was also set up leaving 77 after 12 darts - Murschell missed his 22 finish leaving 12, and Rattigan checked out 20 with dart number 16, avoiding the whitewash. Murschell would  pick up where he left off in leg 5 however, as he held again with an 18 dart leg. Now sitting at 4-1 Rattigan squandered his throw with a couple loose darts and Murschell made it 5-1 with a double 9. After a few minute break from the action, both players came back scoring well, but both stumbled at the double with Murschell once again getting the better of the EDC number 1 ranked player. Rattigan must surely have been thinking with those missed doubled from Murschell, he would get more chances, but unfortunately for him Dawson lived up to his nick name as he averaged 105 for the rest of the match - hitting a 13, and 16 darter ensuring Rattigan - for the first time in an EDC final would only be receiving the runner up prize.

Shane Rattigan made it through to his 7th EDC Final with a big whitewash win over local player Todd Yates, Rattigan posted an 80+ average against Yates which was more than enough to get through

Shane Rattigan (80.31) vs Todd Yates (60.00)    7 - 0

Rattigan wasted no time, and showed little mercy in this match - He started things off with a 19 dart break of throw, taking out 32 first time of asking and then followed it up by being on a finish after 9 darts thanks to a 140 and 177, he missed a few doubles and held with a 19 darter.- then next few minutes must have been a bit of a blur to Yates as Rattigan hit the matches first 180 on his way a to a 16 dart break - he then blasted his next 180 and a 14 dart hold. At 4-0 down, Yates had his moment opening up with another 100 score and hitting 97 to leave a two darter - but Rattigan checked out the high finish of the match - a 75. Rattigan then opened up 100,140,100 on his way to yet another 16 darter and going within one of the match. Rattigan did falter at then end missing a slew of darts at double, and dropping his average to just 80 from the 87 it had been up to this point - even giving Yates a chance to take a leg, but it was not to be.

Dawson Murschell mad it through to his second EDC final in only two events, it was an exciting affair against well known local George Rowland.

Dawson Murschell (74.88) vs George Rowland (64.39)      7 - 6

Rowland won the bull and made good hitting a 100, and 140 in the first leg, holding his throw with a 19 darter on double 4. Murschell came right back and held his throw squaring the match at 1-1. The men then traded 140's in the next before Rowland again took the lead this time checking out tops after both men had missed doubles. Murschell and Rowland traded big shots in then next - but 'Awesome' Dawson busted his 80 check out and Rowland was there to seal the first break of throw. The 3-1 score line would not last long however and Murschell broke back straight away with a beautiful 64 check out with dart number 17, he then followed it with a 19 dart hold to square the match back up at 3-3. Leg 7 business picked up a bit as Dawson narrowly missed an 85 check out for a 15 darts, Rowland picked off tops for a 16 dart hold, but again Murschell showed his class responding with scores of 125, and 180 to leave 86 which was out with dart number 14 and again tied the match. The men again traded holds to make it 5-5. Leg 11 saw Murschell brake the Rowland throw and take the lead for the first time in the match, and go within one of the final, but Rowland was not done yet - capitalizing on missed darts from Dawson hitting tops and sending this into a decider. The men traded 100 scores to get things started but a 66 slip up from Rowland saw Murschell jump on him with a 139 - Dawson had only 120 left after 12 darts, last leg nerves crept in and he squandered chance after chance until Rowland had 69 left - then Murschell hit double 10 for the win.
